B ue mermaid. PLEASE COME IN, I'VE BEEN EXPECTING YOU...

It had actually been created a few years earlier at the museum, to feature in an exhibition there devoted to legendary creatures, and had been specifically structured to mimic the pose adopted by the Little Mermaid statue. But what has any of this to do with the Haraldskaer mermaid skeleton? I'm glad that you asked. Not only that, in an all-too-familiar trend seen on the Net with unusual images, they have even inspired various entirely new, but equally fictitious histories for it.

Consequently, I have seen some sites claiming that the skeleton has been the subject of much controversy since being discovered in Poland! Worst of all, however, is that all of the media reports that I have read concerning it, even those from ostensibly respectable sources, have either been incomplete or decidedly ambiguous, inasmuch as they have implied that the Haraldskaer mermaid skeleton created by Rude and the mermaid skeleton placed briefly on the plaster replica of the Little Mermaid statue's rock and whose creation was overseen by Strager are one and the same, when in reality they are entirely different, albeit extremely similar specimens.

Indeed, it now means that this article of mine may well be the only account presently online that provides an accurate, non-conflated coverage of these two gaffs. A popular expression is that you can't keep a good man or woman down. Neither, it would seem, can you keep a good mermaid or two down; nor, at the risk of mixing metaphors further, can the internet let sleeping mermaids lie — not even ones that never existed to begin with!

Cryptozoology Blogs. Tyler Houck's Cryptozoo. Firstly, the suite is spacious, bright, and well kept. We were charmed by the dining nook and fresh flowers on the table, and appreciated the space to move and spread out within the kitchen, living area, and separate bedroom. The suite was extremely clean, including a spotless bathroom, and was comfortable - from the cozy bed to the welcoming futon and oversized love seat.

Additionally, we had the pleasure of fast, functional internet which can be a rarity in boutique and non-chain lodging in Alaska - we are usually happy to trade internet for "off the beaten path" experiences, but thankfully this suite melded both! The suite's owner was pleasant, friendly, and welcoming when we ran into him at the bookstore downstairs.

Now, the drawbacks. There were a couple of minor things that may not bother some travelers, but that stood out to us. Additionally, the kitchen was reasonably outfitted but lacked a pot big enough to boil pasta for dinner or any number of tools beyond knives and wooden spoons which was surprising because all three other cabins or boutique lodgings where we stayed in Alaska were quite well outfitted in their kitchens.

Beyond these minor bothers, I would highlight two problems that reduced the experience for us from top notch to simply adequate. Firstly, the hot tub reeked of mildew or mold, to the point where we considered it unusable disappointing for us, because it was one of the main draws of the suite.

Also, while the cafe closes at 8 pm, we were kept awake by noise well past 10 pm. Overall we were generally pleased with the accommodations, but based on the drawbacks noted above, we probably would not stay there again. Date of stay: August Location. Hot tub was great. Nice living room, plenty of space, great view. Only issue was breakfast. We never received a coupon nor was it mentioned. Date of stay: July Value. Sleep Quality. Northern Virginia 19 contributions 7 helpful votes. Loved it here. Positive: An attractive, comfortable, relatively new apartment above a quaint used bookstore. A previous reviewer mentioned no wifi, but when we were there June they DID have wifi and it worked fast and flawlessly. The table in the cupola next to the kitchen was a fabulous place to hang out, enjoy the view and relax after a day of exploring.

The location is a short walk to the beach. The kitchen was fully equipped, the bed was comfortable. There was one towel per person to use for both hot tubbing and showering.

Regarding the TV, we noticed that it was old, but it didn't matter because we didn't even turn it on. I would definitely stay here again. Date of stay: June Value. Previous Next 1 2. I have eaten here many times over the years because I have loved their clam chowder. This time it was very disappointing. The rest of the dishes we had were good. Over priced, poor service. Skip this place. Service was extremely attentive. Food was good and portions were perfect. Convenient for guests staying in the Argonaut Hotel.

We enjoyed our experience. The Salmon was phenomenal. Casual, no table cloths. We went for brunch. Good food. Tourist prices. Good service. Service was very slow. Amazing staff and beautiful hotel! We had a great first experience. Many thanks and keep up the great work!

The food was good, but the portions are too limited compared to their price. We were visiting from LA over Memorial Day weekend. Our server Josh and the entire staff were so kind and welcoming. Not an extensive menu but what they did was well done. The burgers are great! Awful service. Service was slow and food was a bit over priced. Great ambiance for a date though. I would come back again.

Never thought the food would that delicious! Although there were some bumps in the service but over all I would dine there again! I always go here when I visit San Francisco, even if I am not visiting the pier.

The service is always amazing but this time they went above and beyond. The manager heard that I was disappointed that they no longer offered the Chowder Sampler, so he made us one and brought it out to our table himself. I was ecstatic and this level of attention made our meal truly special. Absolutely the best!

Food was delicious and their cocktails so good you had to have two! Service was quick and efficient. Prices were reasonable. I dined with a friend who brought her 6mo son. The floor staff was very understanding of the situation.

Lovely food and staff! The Herb-Brined Chicken was so tasty. Loved the faro risotto. Very expensive for average quality. Do not order the smoothies. Cioppino excellent. Crab dip not very flavorable, but decent. Great location, ambiance. Service was friendly and efficient. Our server came back several times to see how we were doing. We had their burgers which were delicious. Also good were the crab and corn chowder and the calamari.

We would return. Mediocre meal Restaurant week in SF so we decided to go to Blue Mermaid, a place we always passed by but never went inside. The restaurant week menu and the location on the wharf was impressive however the burger I was given came out essentially raw. Obviously frozen prior to cooking because the outside was charred but the inside completely raw.

I imagine the burger had been served many times that day and they were cooking them in bulk. Obviously a big negative but the restaurant and bar ambiance were both impressive. Food was fabulous. Calamari was fresh and crispy. Portions were good. As they were participating in restaurant week, I decided to check out their menu and an offering, Roast pork loin with mole sauce, caught my eye.

My first impression was that the noise level was a bit high, especially since it wasn't crowded. The only other complaint I have is that they do not offer a non-alcoholic beer. By the end of my meal, this is the only real criticism I had with my dinner; other than that, the meal was perfect. I usually dine as a single, which occasionally leads to not so great service or feel that I am being rushed, but my server, Mihai, was friendly, attentive and knowledgeable.

I started with crab and corn chowder and it was incredible. The pork was moist and tasty, the mole sauce great and the accompaniments very good. I'm not usually a kale fan, but it was excellent.

Over all, I'm glad I chose the Blue Mermaid. The bar area was dirty. I sat at the bar and overall not a great experience. Clam chowder was excellent. Linguine with clams and hamburger were just OK.

Waitress was very pleasant, but seemed a little nervous and disorganized. During my weekend getaway to SanFrancisco we ate breakfast at the Blue Mermaid and returned for dinner. The staff was friendly, professional and provided excellent pointers regarding locale tourist attractions. Everything was Fabulous! Food was fine. Not great, not terrible. Service was good. Great location! Liked this place so much we went back a second time.

First evening sat outside near the patio heaters and second time inside. Restaurant is inside the old Del Monte cannery and is cosy with a good ambience. Staff are attentive and the food good. The crab dip to start is a delight and the choice of chowders are excellent. We decided to go out for breakfast after crossing the finish line of the Golden Gate Half Marathon. I was able to make a reservation for 3 within 20 minutes.

Upon our arrival we experienced a wonderful welcome, and excellence service throughout. The food came out promptly, and was delicious! Hello Rose, Thanks for the 5 star great review! Hope to see you soon! The food was very good. We stayed at the hotel and the service and location was top notch.

The restaurant service was mediocre, not bad but not overly friendly or exceptional. Would have expected the service of the restaurant to match the level of the hotel. We were not greeted upon entering and had to wait for about 5 minutes to be acknowledged - at 7am, they were not busy, and multiple people who worked there walked by without speaking.
